What to expect in a adoption home study?

A home study has many elements and can be completed only when all requirements are met. There are several verifications that must be submitted before a home study can be completed. Your home study provider should give you an easy to follow checklist, including information on how to obtain the required information.

During the home study process, there are at least two home visits and more if the provider feels more exploration is needed. Although the physical home is important and adequate space and stability in the home a necessity, a home study is so much more.   Your home study provider should ask important questions that will ensure you are ready to parent through adoption.   Some examples are, overcoming infertility, birth parents and raising an adopted child.   During my home studies, I give my clients thinking points to be discussed during the second meeting. Average home study meetings are usually between two and three hours each, as there is a lot to cover.
